riday 6th August – My Aeon

Simon Slieker:

A career behind the decks spanning 16 years has taken Simon around the world, around the country and certainly inside every nook and cranny within Melbourne’s healthy electronic music scene. Talented and diverse, Slieker continues to forge ahead with a hectic schedule into 2010…

His prominent achivements have been a lauded 8 years of throwing down at infamous techno institution Teriyaki Anarki Saki. He’s written for various magazines, inlcuding Beat and Zebra, most notably the ongoing “Knights of Class” fictional storyline which generated it’s own cult following. He’s hosted radio shows first on KISS FM, then later STREET FM where his friday night “Funk’n Jack’n show enjoyed great popularity; until the station went into a hiatus.

He co-owned seminal dance-culture shop Perpetual Motion Machine, and has since run two production businesses; the infamous Yeah Fuck Yeah and Monotremes. Now turning his focus to his own music production, Simon is readying himself for more touring and a swag of future releases.

Gavin Martin:

Gavin Martin is a Melbourne based dj, playing as label representative for OPEN RECORDS, VAPOUR RECORDINGS & GREEN ANT.
Gavin has been djing since 1996, having in that time played at pretty much every major indoor & outdoor event in melbourne, as well as extensively interstate & overseas.
His current sound is constantly moving, evolving & shaping between influences of techno, tek house, progressive & anything with a forward thinking ear, dancefloor groove & subtle atmospherics & rhythms.
Gavin is also a producer under multiple guises:
His main two are: FULCRUM & GMJ, with a third SEPHORA just being signed as an exclusive alias for BAROQUE records group…
A fourth, SYEN, is focused more on downbeat / chill & experimental sounds.

Continuum (live):

With influences ranging from Electro, Dub, Reggae, Minimal and Progressive genres, this group is truly a reflection of their name, and are continually striving for new and fresh production techniques and sounds. Continuum’s live show is an auditory and physical experience, seamlessly dissolving between organic minimal and industrial techno/electro sound scapes, bleeps, squeaks and stabs! With performances at some of Australia’s biggest festivals and parties including Earthdance, Rainbow Serpent, LAB, Maya festival, Ostara festival, Maitreya and more..
Genuinely nice guys with a somewhat quirky sense of humour, they will be found just as much on the dance floor, as in front of it. The Continuum boys are quickly on the move and are ones to watch with a solid string of live performances and an eagerly anticipated debut album out soon.

Drew Jugum:

People have done great things when they put everything into something they desire to achieve. In Drew Jugum’s case this was to create, play and entertain with the aid of music. From an early age it was a matter of playing in a rock band whilst also working through music as a much loved high school subject. As his talent and taste in music progressed Drew found himself being drawn into a realm that is known as ‘dance music’.

With very early influences such as Daft Punk and Marc Romboy, Drew made the decision that he would put away the guitar and buy turntables. After two years Drew plays with the ‘Pinksilver’ boys who run a very unique and underground label at home in Melbourne. Playing gigs and running a radio slot on kiss FM are also activities he can be heard participating in. In a day and age where it seems anyone can become a deejay, confusion can often separate the talent from the scene. Drew believes that if you play the music you truly believe in and feel than you are destined to become recognised for exactly that….. And nothing else…..

My Aeon is having another installment of open decks night on Saturday 21st August.

After a huge successful night last time we ran this event, we were able to pick up new talent who have not previously played at My Aeon: Richie Isaac, Luke Lawrence, Andre C and Steven Riley have earned the right to play at the club on the 31st July and August 6th respectively and also future upcoming gigs.

We hope to find a dj/ producer who has not had the chance to get any gigs around town, or simply has not put him or her out there yet!

If you sent one last time and did not get a shot, please do not hesitate to send a new demo to us to listen to.. We do encourage bedroom dj’s who have never been given an opportunity to get out of the house and in a club environment.

Please send us a demo/ demo’sto us. We only have six available bookings to fill. You will play for 1 hour and be rated for music genre, track selection, programming, mixing capabilities and also number of guests you are able to bring…

Send your demo’s to mail@myaeon.com.au or via mail to 791 Sydney Road Brunswick VIC 3056 and attention it to Steven Sakkas

Absolutely breathtaking is the way to describe the turn of events for the 1st birthday on Friday March 6th!

It all began with Gavin Martin, raising the bar so high and setting the standard of music that unfolded during the course of the evening! From the first original track recently produced but yet to be released, Gavin showed why he is the ‘ever so reliable’ and musical genius that he is!

Playing with such a deep early set and really warming the crowd for what was ready to unfold!!! Even listening amongst the audience just arriving, you could hear just how important his set was for this special event!

Along came Danny Bonnici… Gavin certainly was able to keep Danny honest… and believe me… Danny provided! With what was a set to light up any dance floor… even the patron who refuses to dance… they would have been on the burning floor just like the rest of the audience clapping and whistling to what was definitely a set you would not wanted to miss! To try and describe what Danny did following Gavin’s set is really difficult to describe in words, but every single person felt it, heard it and appreciated what they heard!

…Aaron Smiles!!!

From laptop, to cdj’s, to turn table… Loops, live cutting and even some good old classics mixed up so masterfully is the only way Aaron knows how and once again this was set up by the two  boys Gavin and Danny playing a master class set! Very rarely do i get so revved up with what i’ve heard in a night… Very rarely do i get so excited and apart of something so special i just want to box it up… lock it up and keep this memory so i can always go back and remember those fond memories!!!

Mike Callandar followed with his own theme on this event and kept the mood alight and grooving to the early hours of the morning and finishing the set of the night was Steven Sakkas!

The vibe on this event was so special to everyone, you could just feel the party still lingering a couple days later…

This event was one for the record books and one that will stay up there for a very long time in the history of all good club nights…

Special thanks to all the people who came to share this experience with us…

Due to the response we will now have this event as a monthly! The only change to this awesome line up is the inclusion of our local hero… None other than…
