My Aeon 2nd Birthday Party – Friday March 5th 2010

My Aeon celebrates two years of its existence! With a long list of electronic producers and dj’s we have put a list together a list of resident dj’s for this special event.

Fee entry all night, we hope you are able to share this experience with us as we would love to have your company!

Dj’s include:

Phil K,

Phil can rarely sleep for the new choons and ideas continually throbbing and zipping in his perpetually inexplicable head. Already teaming up with Renaissance wonder child (and fellow Star Wars nut), James Zabiela, for a Red Cross Tsunami Charity Appeal ‘one-on-one’ set at Room680, Phil has mixed his successes of last year with the opportunities of this, the next one, the way he mixes anything and everything … seamlessly. It hasn’t gone unnoticed, either. Just have a look at fellow Rebel Spy, James Zabiela ’s thoughts on Phil K ’s Force after they blew 1500 minds: “You’re without a doubt my favourite DJ – someone who’s not afraid to take risks and try new things, and someone who executes techniques in a unique way”.

T-Minus five and counting … Three … Two … One …send us a postcard from the moon, Phil .

Danny Bonnici,

With a musical career spanning 15 years, one of the most original talents in dance music today is Danny Bonnici. Over the past 6 years, Danny has been at the forefront of the Australian scene as frontman of one of the country’s biggest dance acts, Nubreed. He”s pleased crowds the world over with his raw stage presence and energetic live shows. As part of Nubreed he’s worked on an album and over a dozen singles, as well as remixes for the likes of Junkie XL, Tiesto, Crystal Method, Scritti Politti, and Way Out West, to name a few. Now, in 2006 he is pushing the envelope further with a new solo show. Using Ableton Live, Danny is causing a commotion with his own style of dirty 4/4, electro, and breaks.

Gavin Martin,

Gavin Martin is a Melbourne based dj, playing as label representative for OPEN RECORDS, VAPOUR RECORDINGS & GREEN ANT.

Gavin has been djing since 1996, having in that time played at pretty much every major indoor & outdoor event in melbourne, as well as extensively interstate & overseas.

His current sound is constantly moving, evolving & shaping between influences of techno, tek house, progressive & anything with a forward thinking ear, dancefloor groove & subtle atmospherics & rhythms.

Gavin is also a producer under multiple guises:

His main two are: FULCRUM & GMJ, with a third SEPHORA just being signed as an exclusive alias for BAROQUE records group…

A fourth, SYEN, is focused more on downbeat / chill & experimental sounds.

Aaron Smiles,

Aaron Smiles is a name synonymous with the evolution and growing popularity of Electronica. Be it ambient, techno, breaks, trance or progressive in form, Aaron has over 10 years experience in this particular field and has legitimately earned himself the role as the countries finest exponent of this extremely artistic wing of dance culture.

In Melbourne in particular Aaron is something of an icon, with every outdoor party/psy enthusiast having a story of an Aaron Smiles sunrise set that rocked them to the verycore of their soul. Be it the more publicised events or the smaller intimate parties Aaron knows every crowd and every crowd knows Aaron.

His list of credits is incomparable having supported the likes of Ticon, Sun Project, Son Kite, Dave Angel, Big Wigs, Shiva Space Technology and Planet Ben (to name just a few) playing parties including Rainbow Serpent, Earthcore, Hydra, Tranquil Nights, Genesha, Green Ant, Sunny, Sonar and SSU. Earlier this year he toured to Kuala Lumpa to play the famous club Strumps, flown over from Melbourne as the promoters next choice DJ in the world, to fill in for none other than big name international producer/DJ, John Creamer.

Andrew Dannaoui,

Andrew Dannaoui is a self taught Melbourne Producer beginning as a teenager, experimenting with different styles of music. After discovering that Progressive House music was the direction in which he wanted to take, Andrew decided to study audio engineering, in order to gain a better understanding of the technical aspects of creating music. After studying for 15 months at SAE, he was given the necessary tools which enabled him to transform his musical ideas into audio.

Whilst travelling the USA & UK & visiting many underground clubs, he became exposed to the unique sounds & styles, which had not reached the shores of Melbourne. This played a strong influence on Andrew’s current sound.

Influenced from around the globe by Producers & DJs such as Danny Tenaglia, Satoshi Tomiie, Steve Lawler, William Orbit, Clive Henry, Peter MacNammara, Gavin Keitel & kasey taylor.

Recently signed to steve lawler’s own harlem record’s label “Colours of progressive” was lovingly arranged & produced by Andrew Dannaoui and is merely a snapshot of the type of sound created in his studio.

Steven Sakkas,

Steven Sakkas was a late starter behind the decks picking them up only 8 years ago but has never looked back. In his 4th month, he begun a 5 year residency playing at Arthurs Bar before moving on and beginning his other venture. Steven’s music style has been hugely influenced by none other than John Digweed and Sasha with many local heroes such as Phil K.

Steven’s style has progressed from Deep House, Elektro, Progressive and now playing a deep tech sound with a mix of Tech House and Progressive choons also! Steven’s specialty are recovery sets and opening so opening this event from 10 pm to 11:30 pm should suit him to a tea!

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -

For those who always ask what My Aeon means…[Late Latin aeōn, from Greek aiōn; see aiw- in Indo-European roots.]

1. One of a class of powers or beings conceived as emanating from the Supreme Being and performing various functions in the operations of the universe

2. An indefinitely long period of time; age.

3. The largest division of geologic time, comprising two or more eras.

4. Astronomy. one billion years.

My Aeon is a coming of age with many years to come… We hope provide a supreme being and perform various functions of the universe through sight, touch but most of all… SOUND…

Absolutely breathtaking is the way to describe the turn of events for the 1st birthday on Friday March 6th!

It all began with Gavin Martin, raising the bar so high and setting the standard of music that unfolded during the course of the evening! From the first original track recently produced but yet to be released, Gavin showed why he is the ‘ever so reliable’ and musical genius that he is!

Playing with such a deep early set and really warming the crowd for what was ready to unfold!!! Even listening amongst the audience just arriving, you could hear just how important his set was for this special event!

Along came Danny Bonnici… Gavin certainly was able to keep Danny honest… and believe me… Danny provided! With what was a set to light up any dance floor… even the patron who refuses to dance… they would have been on the burning floor just like the rest of the audience clapping and whistling to what was definitely a set you would not wanted to miss! To try and describe what Danny did following Gavin’s set is really difficult to describe in words, but every single person felt it, heard it and appreciated what they heard!

…Aaron Smiles!!!

From laptop, to cdj’s, to turn table… Loops, live cutting and even some good old classics mixed up so masterfully is the only way Aaron knows how and once again this was set up by the two boys Gavin and Danny playing a master class set! Very rarely do i get so revved up with what i’ve heard in a night… Very rarely do i get so excited and apart of something so special i just want to box it up… lock it up and keep this memory so i can always go back and remember those fond memories!!!

Mike Callandar followed with his own theme on this event and kept the mood alight and grooving to the early hours of the morning and finishing the set of the night was Steven Sakkas!

The vibe on this event was so special to everyone, you could just feel the party still lingering a couple days later…

This event was one for the record books and one that will stay up there for a very long time in the history of all good club nights…

Special thanks to all the people who came to share this experience with us…

Due to the response we will now have this event as a monthly! The only change to this awesome line up is the inclusion of our local hero… None other than…

Phil K
